Armstrong Volleyball Notches 20th Win Of Season

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University volleyball squad collected its 20th win of the season with a 3-0 victory over cross-town rival Savannah State on Tuesday evening at the ARC. Game scores were: 25-10, 25-7, 25-16.

With the win, the Pirates (20-12) have reached the 20-win plateau in 11 of Armstrong's last 12 seasons of volleyball, dating back to 1999. Savannah State, who saw its modest two-match win streak come to a close, finishes the 2010 season with a 5-23 record.

The Pirates hit .358 as a team on the evening, led by sophomore Amanda Jones, who hit .389 with a match-high 10 kills. Senior Gwen Clarke hit .400 with nine kills and four blocks while freshman Megan Pando notched 17 assists in two sets of action and freshman Jessica Santaniello collected 11 digs.

Savannah State hit -.160 for the match with just 14 kills and 26 hitting errors in 75 attacks. Whitney Bullock's four kills led the Tigers, while Ashlee Butler tallied 11 assists and Kaneisha Hamilton notched 11 digs.

The Pirates return to action on Friday, Nov. 12, in the first round of the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Tournament, hosted by the Pirates. Third-seeded Armstrong faces sixth-seeded UNC Pembroke at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the ARC.
