Alpough, Malmlov Earn AVCA East Region Accolades

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - University of New Haven women's volleyball student-athletes Sara Malmlov and Chelsey Alpough have both earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region honors. The AVCA announced the team of 13 student-athletes from around the region. The Chargers' libero, Heather Ladao was named to the honorable mention team.

Malmlov, the two-time Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, led the Chargers with 3.96 kills per set. She also registered 3.35 digs per set from her outside hitter position. The senior recorded a team-high 48 service aces and 49 total blocks as well. This is Malmlov's second season on the AVCA All-East Region Team.

Alpough, the two-time Northeast-10 Conference Setter of the Year, led the Chargers with 10.48 assists per set. The junior also recorded 232 digs, 28 service aces and 82 kills throughout the season. She led the NE-10 in assists per set and was also named to the NE-10 First Team in 2010. This is Alpough's second season on the AVCA All-East Region Team.

Ladao anchored the Chargers' defense this season with 4.45 digs per set and 467 total digs. She also handed out 53 assists and tallied 43 aces on the season.

The Chargers finished the season with a 27-3 overall record and a perfect 15-0 record in the NE-10. New Haven claimed the NE-10 regular season and postseason championships and advanced to the NCAA Division II East Region Championship.
