Spartans Drop #13 Tars In SSC Quarterfinals

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team took down No. 13 Rollins College on Tuesday evening at Pepin Stadium in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. Despite its national rank, the Tars (10-4-2) came into the match with the No. 5 seed while the Spartans (13-5) were seeded fourth.

The teams exchanged zeroes in the first half with Tampa edging Rollins 4-2 in shots on goal, and 10-4 in shots overall.

It took until 74th minute to break the deadlock, but Spartan freshman Carolyn Simon netted her sixth goal of the season when he shot into a wide open net after a pass from Courtney Peffley. The goal capped off a relentless attack from the Tampa offense, who rattled off five shots on goal in the closing frame.

With the win, the Spartans will travel to Nova Southeastern, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, on Friday, November 5.
