Evans named RMAC Women’s Soccer Freshman of the Year; Three others earn All-RMAC honors

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ Anna Evans has been named the 2010 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Freshman of the Year as announced today by the RMAC. Both Jessica Stark and Megan Woodworth were named to the First Team and Kelsey Lang earned Third Team All-RMAC honors.

Evans, a freshman midfielder from Arvada, Colo. (Arvada West H.S.), is the first women’s soccer player in the history of Mines to be named Freshman of the Year. A Second Team All-RMAC selection, Evans has started all 18 games this season for Mines and has more goals (8) than any other freshman in the RMAC. Among players in the RMAC, Evans ranks sixth in goals, seventh in points (tied – 20) and tied for tenth in assists (4).

Stark, a senior defender from Abilene, Texas (Cooper H.S.), garners First Team All-RMAC accolades for the first time in her career this season. A Pre-Season All-RMAC selection, Stark has started all 18 games this season for Mines and has four goals, one game-winner, and an assist.

Woodworth, a sophomore midfielder from Centennial, Colo. (Smoky Hill H.S.), garners First Team All-RMAC honors for the second consecutive season. A Pre-Season All-RMAC selection, Woodworth ranks third in the RMAC in assists (8), fourth in points (tied – 22), fifth in game-winning goals (tied – 3) and eighth in goals (tied – 7). Earlier this season, Woodworth established a new single-game record when she tallied three assists against Colorado Christian.

Lang, a senior defender from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Air Academy), received Third Team All-RMAC honors in during the 2009 season as well. Lang helps anchor a top five defense in the RMAC that ranks fourth in goals allowed (19) and goals against average (1.00). 

The Orediggers (10-5-3, 9-4-1 RMAC), the #4-seed in the RMAC Tournament, will host the #5-seed Metro State in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 RMAC Women’s Soccer Tournament tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 3rd at 3:00 pm. The winner will advance to the semifinal round on Friday, Nov. 5th and play the #1-seed Fort Lewis at Dirks Field at 2:30 pm.
