The Indians won despite a career-high equaling 36 points from Pfeiffer’s Chris Woods (Thomasville, NC), who also added 18 rebounds. Jeff Pettiway (Edgewood, MD) followed with 15 points with Davon Gilliard (Charleston, SC) adding 14.
Catawba rode a hot-shooting hand to lead most of the opening half. A Cameron Lovelace (Cherryville, NC/Cherryville HS/N. Florida) three-pointer at the 9:52 mark gave the Indians a 25-15 edge. Woods hit two free throws with 3:44 left before the break to give Pfeiffer its first lead and the visitors led by as many as seven before settling for a 47-42 lead at the half.
The Indians hit on 54% in the first half and canned 7-of-14 shots from long range. Pfeiffer shot 47% and held a 24-12 edge on the boards to offset the Catawba shooting. Woods had a double-double by the half with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Woods gave Pfeiffer a 55-48 lead on a pair of free throws with 16:16 to go, but Catawba rallied back from there. Moore capped a 15-1 run by the Indians, which included seven points from Reid, to give Catawba a 63-56 advantage with 13 minutes to play.
Pfeiffer twice got within a point, following a Kyler Gregory (Gibsonville, NC) three-pointer with 11:20 remaining and again at 73-72 after a jumper by Woods with 7:58 left. A basket by Matt Tamer (Winston-Salem, NC/N. Forsyth HS) was followed by seven straight points from Moore as Catawba took control by going on top 82-72 at the 6:10 mark. Pfeiffer never closed within seven after that run by the Indians.
Justin Huntley (Mooresville, NC/Mooresville HS) and Stuart Thomson (Poynton, ENGLAND/Poynton) also reached double figures for Catawba with 15 and 12, respectively. Reid added a team-high six rebounds and handed out four assists.
