Lowest Scoring Win for Metro State Since 1990

NAMPA, Idaho - No. 11 Metro State edged Northwest Nazarene (Idaho) 53-48 on Saturday night at the Northwest Nazarene Thanksgiving Classic in Nampa, Idaho.  The Roadrunners improved to 3-1 this season, while NNU dropped to 2-2.

It was the fewest points scored in a victory for Metro State since winning 52-51 at Montana State-Billings on Jan. 27, 1990, as the Roadrunners relied on a strong defense on Saturday.  They held NNU to just 34.8 percent shooting and outrebounded the Crusaders 27-22.

Offensively, Metro State hit 11-of-13 at the line and shot 54.3 percent from the floor.  Quaran Johnson and Glenn Miller each scored 10 points to lead the Roadrunners.  Paul Brotherson and Reggie Evans each had nine points.  Jonathan Morse was a perfect 6-for-6 at the line and scored eight points and had a team-high six rebounds.

The Roadrunners rallied from a halftime deficit for the second time this season after trailing 25-23 at the break.

NNU led 35-32 with 12:29 left to play when Evans buried a 3-pointer with 12:05 left to tie the score.  Johnson then hit another triple two possessions later for a 38-35 lead.  Metro State led 45-38 with 3:57 left as Johnson capped a 13-3 run with a layup.

The Crusaders cut the lead to one at 49-48 with 19 seconds left.  Johnson hit two free throws with 18 seconds left and after a defensive stop, Morse hit a pair at the line to ice the game with three seconds left.

Metro State will travel to New Mexico Highlands to open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Friday with an 8 p.m. game.
