GC Soccer Falls 3-2 in PBC Quarterfinals at North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. –  Senior Ally Treat (Fayetteville, Ga.) tallied two goals in the second half but it was not enough as the Georgia College soccer team (7-8-2) lost in a 3-2 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Quarterfinal Tuesday night at North Georgia (14-4) in penalty kicks. The defeat ends the 2010 campaign for the Bobcats.

North Georgia started the scoring halfway through the first half off a corner kick. Natalie Douglass netted a header off a Casey Smith assist at the 22:24 mark to take the 1-0 lead.

The Saints attacked again in the second half when Emily Dover netted a goal off an assist from Brittany Schmidt to take the 2-0 advantage.

Then Treat took over. The senior midfielder hit a goal of an assist from classmate Jessica Newland (Hiram, Ga.) at the 73:56 mark to get within one goal of the North Georgia Saints. Treat came back less than three minutes later to knot the game 2-2.

Neither team was able to score in the overtime frames as the game would be determined by penalty kicks. The Saints edged the Bobcats in penalty kicks 6-5.

Sara Kate Rogers hit the game-winner in penalty to kicks to give North Georgia the win.

Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) tallied seven saves in the contest, bringing her to 79 on the 2010 campaign. The All-American senior goalie recorded three shutouts on the season to finish with 19 in her career, sixth all-time in the Peach Belt.
