2010-11 PacWest Women’s Basketball Report #1

PHOENIX, AZ - Grand Canyon senior guard Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Sunday, Nov. 21, for games contested Nov. 12-14.

Murphy averaged 24.7 points per game as the Antelopes jumped to a 2-1 start at the Disney Classic in Anaheim, CA. She set a PacWest single-game record by scoring 49 points in GCU’s triple-overtime win vs. UC San Diego on Nov. 14. It marked just the second 40-point game in PacWest women’s basketball history. She snapped the previous record of 40 points set by BYU- Hawaii’s Latoya Wily on Jan. 10, 2009, at Hawai‘i Pacific.

During the three games in Anaheim, Murphy shot 54.2% (26 for 48) from the floor, aver- aged 4.7 rebounds per game, hit 31 of 32 free throw attempts (96.9%), and made 12 of 20 three-point shots (60.0%). She ranked 10th in foul shooting, sixth in three-point shooting, and second in three-pointers made per game (4.0) in the PacWest for the week.


PacWest Women’s Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Sheila Adams - Dixie State (Jr., 5-6, G, Layton, UT/Layton)...poured in 22 points af- ter hitting five three-pointers in 71-67 upset win at Division I Utah State on Nov. 12...shot 55.6% from the floor (5 for 9) - all three-point attempts...made 7 of 8 free throw attempts (87.5%)...also had three assists.

Jordan Ahakuelo - Chaminade (Fr., 5-5, G, Pearl City, HI/Pearl City)...scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds in loss vs. Adams (CO) State on Nov. 14...also had three steals.

Johnna Brown - Dixie State (So., 6-0, F, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...scored 15 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in 71-67 upset win at Division I Utah State on Nov. 12...shot 62.5% from the floor (5 for 8)...also had two assists.

Kelsey Janusch - Dominican (CA) (Sr., 5-8, G, Novato, CA/Marin)...averaged 12.5 points per game in an 0-2 start for the Penguins...one loss came against Division I Cal St. Bakersfield...shot 55.6% from beyond the arc (5 for 9) and averaged 2.5 three-pointers made per game.

Kirsty Imai - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., 5-4, G, Hilo, HI/Waiakea)...averaged 13.0 points, 2.5 as- sists, 2.5 steals and 3.0 three-pointers made per game in two tough losses vs. St. Martin’s on Nov. 12 and 13.

Paris Gravely - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-5, G, Fairfield, CA/Fairfield)...scored 19 points in 92-72 win vs. Adams (CO) State on Nov. 13...hit 7 of 10 field goal attempts (70.0%)...also had three assists.

Devin London - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-6, G, Oak Park, IL/Marian Catholic)...recorded 18 points and shot 54.5% (6 for 11) from the field in 73-69 overtime loss vs. Cal State Los An- geles on Nov. 14...had three assists and was 5 for 5 from the line.

Rosalyn Nelson - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-8, G, Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley)...averaged 10.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in a 2-1 start for the Antelopes...all three games played in three days Nov. 12-14 at the Disney Classic in Ana- heim, CA...also averaged 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals per contest.

Verity Peets - Academy of Art (Sr., 6-0, F, Stockport, England/Stockport)...posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in 73-69 overtime loss vs. Cal State Los An- geles on Nov. 14.

Katelyn Urquhart - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6- 2, F/C, Highland, WA/Highland)...scored 13 points and added eight rebounds in 92-72 win vs. Adams (CO) State on Nov. 13...was per- fect from the foul line (5 for 5).
