Montana State Billings Women’s Soccer Places Four on NSCAA All-West Region

BILLINGS, Mont. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has voted four Montana State Billings women’s soccer players to the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Women’s NCAA Division II All-West Region team, the association announced Thursday.

Senior Samantha Boehm and sophomore Jaucelyn Richter were both named to the second team, while seniors Kari Foreman and Carly Valentine both earned third team honors.

“It’s a great achievement to have four members named to the all-west region team,” said head coach Don Trentham. “All four individuals are certainly deserving of the recognition. I was very happy to see Carly (Valentine) get the award as she’s had a fantastic career at MSUB, which sometimes goes unnoticed.”

With four honorees, MSUB had the second most award-winners on the list, just one behind UC San Diego and Seattle Pacific with five.

The four players named to the 2010 list match the all-time total the Yellowjackets had ever placed on the list before this season. Sara Gress was the most recent recipient of the award in 2008, earning third team honors.

Boehm helped anchor one of the top defenses in program history. With her efforts on the back line, the Jackets recorded nine shutouts in 2010 and surrendered just 19 goals during the season. The defense also shut down opponents, allowing them to shoot just .466 on goal. Boehm also served as the team captain for a team that made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament and recorded a win.

Richter had another exceptional year up top. The 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year may not have had the numbers from her freshman season, but did help create many of the 30 goals the Jackets scored this season. Richter fired a team-high 31 of 51 shots on goal and scored three goals with five assists this season.

Foreman finished her MSUB career near the top of many statistical categories in the programs’ record book. She scored five goals and had four assists to finish second on the team in scoring with 14 total points. Foreman also had three game-winning goals this season, shooting .667 on goal.

Valentine had a superb senior season in the midfield for the Yellowjackets. She scored three goals and recorded an assist, totaling seven points in 2010. The senior showed grit and determination, breaking her nose in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against CSULA, and returning later in the match to finish the contest.
