Mars Hill Women's Basketball defeats Bears in overtime

MARS HILL, N.C. - Kristen Metcalf scored 17 of her 19 points after halftime to lead the Mars Hill women's basketball team over Lenoir-Rhyne in overtime by a score of 87-79. The Lions improve to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears fall to 4-3 overall, 1-1 in the league.

Metcalf hit a 3-pointer on the right wing in the second half to give Mars Hill a 70-66 lead. She also drilled a timely shot from behind the arc with 1:28 left in overtime to give the Lions an 81-74 advantage.

Brittini Young added a team-high 23 points for Mars Hill. With the performance, she moved into 10th place on the school's all-time scoring list and now has 1,410 points.

Taylor Deal pumped in 14 points and nine rebounds for the Lions.

Cameron Sealey led Lenoir-Rhyne with a game-high 30 points and was perfect (11-11) from the free throw line. Whitney Brinkley and Precious Elkins added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Whitley Culler pulled down 11 rebounds.

Mars Hill took a 42-31 lead into halftime. The Lions shot 58.6 percent from the field (17-29) in the first period.

Young had 11 points at the break. Sealey registered nine points in the first half.

Lenoir-Rhyne outscored Mars Hill, 41-30, in the second half to push the game into an extra period. Sealey nailed three free throws with four seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 72.

The Lions hit six straight free throws in overtime to take control of the game.

Mars Hill will host Anderson next Saturday. Tipoff from Stanford Arena is set for 2 p.m.
