Forstner, Todd Continue Impressive 2010 Campaigns

Forstner earns second place finish while Todd finishes fourth

Cedar Falls, Iowa – The Minnesota State Mavericks wrestling team competed in the University of Northern Iowa Open on Saturday and proceeded to place two individuals.

Andy Forstner brought home the best finish as he advanced all the way to the championship match before losing to Terrance Young (UNI) giving him a second place finish in the 125- lb weight class.

Forstner would begin the tournament with a 4-1 win by decision against Brian St. James (Indiana) before earning a 5-4 decision against Iowa’s Matt Gurule.  Forstner would then advance to the championship game as he defeated Caleb Flores (UNI) by an 8-5 decision.  However, Forstner’s winning streak would be put to a halt by Terrance Young as he came out on the losing end of an 8-3 decision.

Also continuing his impressive performance in tournaments this year was Tel Todd.  Todd backed up his fifth place finish at the UNO Open with a fourth place finish on Saturday.  Todd went 4-2 in the 157- lb weight class as he has now placed in each of the three tournaments the Mavericks have participated in this year.

Todd won his first match as he pinned Anthony Smith (Luther) at the 2:30 mark before losing a 2-0 decision to Nick Moore (Iowa).  Todd would then pin fellow teammate Wade Forde and go on to earn a 5-3 win by decision against Winston Robbins (Upper Iowa), and an 11-2 major decision against Christopher Tims (Wartburg) before earning a spot in the third place match with a rematch against Moore.  However, Moore would earn the victory once again as Todd lost in a 10-3 decision giving him a fourth place finish.

The Maverick wrestlers will return to action on December 11th as they travel to St. Cloud, Minn. to compete in the St. Cloud Open.
