KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The postseason honors keep coming for the West Florida women’s soccer team, as senior Shakira Duncan (Kingston, Jamaica/Darton) and sophomore Jodi-Ann Robinson (Richmond, British Columbia/Palmer Secondary School) were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Performance Suburu All-America first team this week.
This year marks a pair of firsts for the program, as Duncan is now the first two-time NSCAA first team All-American in school history. With Duncan and Robinson both being selected to the first team, it also marks the first time UWF has had two first team All-Americans in one season as selected by the NSCAA. The Argonauts had four players earn NSCAA All-America honors in 2009: Duncan to the first team, Marcela Franco to the second team, and Shameka Gordon and Shaneka Gordon to the third team.
Duncan’s list of individual accomplishments keeps growing, as she is now a consensus two-time first team All-American at West Florida. Not only is she a two-time NSCAA first team All-American, but she is also a two-time Daktronics Ron Lenz National Player of the Year, as selected by Division II sports information directors.
Duncan and Robinson formed one of the top attacking duos in all of college soccer, as the two players combined to score 51 goals with 26 assists in 2010. Duncan led the way with 31 goals, just two shy of her own school record. Robinson added 20 goals and a team-high 14 assists in her first year of college soccer. Both players were also NSCAA All-South Region first team and All-Gulf South Conference first team picks, and Duncan was this year’s GSC Player of the Year.
The NSCAA also released its final national rankings, and West Florida finished the year ranked No. 19 in Division II. The Argos have now finished each of the last three seasons ranked in the NSCAA top 25, as the team finished the 2008 and 2009 seasons at No. 2.
