Clayton State women advance to sixth in new USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll

9-0 Lakers off until Dec. 18 with home showdown against Augusta State

MORROW, Ga. – December 7, 2010 – The Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team continues to climb up the rankings for a third straight week, according to the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll released on Tuesday

Clayton State is ranked sixth in the nation in this week’s Division II Top 25 poll, up three spots from being ranked ninth last week. The Lakers received 532 points, only 20 points behind fifth-ranked Arkansas Tech.

Head coach Dennis Cox’s Clayton State squad is currently 9-0 to start the season, marking the most consecutive victories to start a season in program history. The Lakers are one of two teams from the Peach Belt Conference that are nationally-ranked this week. Lander is ranked second in the nation for a second straight week, trailing only top-ranked Delta State.

In addition, USC Aiken, Georgia College, Augusta State and Francis Marion each received votes.

Clayton State is off until Saturday, Dec. 18, when the Lakers play host to Peach Belt rival Augusta State at 5:30 p.m. at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
