FSU led by Tiffany Haywood’s 13 points
WILSON, NC -- Shante Neal registered a double-double and Janae Jackson snared a career-high 15 rebounds Saturday afternoon as Barton earned a season sweep of visiting Fayetteville State, 91-62, in women's basketball action.
Tiffany Haywood (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) hit 6 of 8 shots en route to a team-high 13 points to go with six reboundsfor the Lady Broncos (0-5) and Je'Lena Robertson (Fr., Houston, TX) scored 11. LaQuasha Jordan (Jr., Greenville, NC) notched a team-best six assists and Tierra Coleman (So., Cameron, NC) corralled nine boards to go with nine points.
Behind 12 points and 11 rebounds from Neal, the Lady Bulldogs ended the 2010 portion of their schedule with a 7-2 record. Fayetteville State will set its focus for next week’s trip to Hawaii to play in the Hoop N Surf Basketball Tournament.
The two teams engaged in a tight battle for much of the first half, but Barton bolted from a 24-22 deficit with a 13-0 run and never looked back. Point guard Jamila Johnson (15 points, eight assists) drilled a 3-pointer to spark the run and the Lady Bulldogs led 38-28 at the break.
Three-pointers by Janetta Robinson (15 points) and Shawnta Shelton (10 points) pushed the Barton lead to 16 points early in the second half and FSU never got within 10 points the remainder of the game.
