Buffaloes’ quarterback advances to Regional ballot
CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M quarterback Taylor Harris has been named to the Harlon Hill Candidate List, as announced Friday by the National Harlon Hill Award Committee.
Players were nominated and voted on by the sports information directors at the 148 NCAA Division II football-playing institutions. A total of 24 candidates, comprised of six players from each of NCAA Division II’s four Super Regionals, remain in the running for the 2010 Harlon Hill Trophy, emblematic as the NCAA Division II College Football Player of the Year.
The 24 remaining candidates will be placed on regional ballots and the top two players from each of the four NCAA regions will advance to the national ballot when regional voting concludes on November 19.
Harris, currently ranking sixth, nationally, in total offense, has continued his passing proliferation this season. Most recently, he threw for 446 yards and four TDs against Abilene Christian. Earlier this season, he passed for a career-high 562 yards and five TDs against Southeastern Oklahoma State. He also completed a career high 41 of 60 passes against Midwestern State.
Through 10 contests, Harris, the LSC leader in passing yardage, has thrown for 3,739 yards and 29 TDs. Over his 40-game career, Harris (just the second player in WT history to top 8,000 yards for his career) has completed 716 of 1,119 passes for 8,732 yards and 62 TDs. He stands second on the WT career passing-yardage list, while also standing second on the WT career total offense list, with 8,468 yards.
The winner of the 2010 award, which is presented by the National Harlon Hill Award Committee, will be announced at the 25th
annual Harlon Hill Trophy Presentation Banquet on Friday, December 17, at the Florence, Alabama, Conference Center at 6:30 p.m.
