West Liberty University quarterback Zach Amedro has been named the D2 Sports Insider Football Player of the Week for the week ending November 7th.
Amedro etched his name into the national, conference and school record books one more time in his illustrious career by tossing a West Virginia Conference-record eight touchdown passes in the Hilltoppers 82-36 rout of Seton Hill this past week. The 82 points are the most by any Division II school this season.
Amedro completed 33-of-44 passes for 525 yards, breaking the all-time Division II mark set by Jimmy Terwilliger of East Stroudsburg (Pa) from 2003-06. Amedro now owns every West Liberty passing record with one more game remaining on the schedule.
Amedro pushed his NCAA Division II career record passing total to 14,377 yards and also moved up on several other national charts. It was his 29th 300-yard passing game and 28th 300-yard total offense game – both NCAA Division II records – while his career average of 334.3 passing yards per game is also an all-time NCAA Division II best. The Hilltopper signalcaller is now No. 2 in the NCAA Division Ii record books in career completions (1,045), career touchdown passes (124) and total offense yards per game (331.5) and No. 3 all-time in total offense (14,253). His 8 TD passes shattered one of the oldest records on the WVIAC and West Liberty books. The previous WVIAC mark of 7 TD passes was set by the Hilltoppers’ Mike Flannery, now the head coach at River High School, in a triple-overtime game against West Virginia State in 1975.
