WBB: #8 Fort Lewis 87, Dominican 44

Fairbanks, Alaska — The Dominican University of California women’s basketball team found itself overpowered by No. 8 Fort Lewis on Friday night, falling 87-44 in the second night of the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational hosted by Alaska-Fairbanks.

Fort Lewis wasted no time, scoring on the opening possession and establishing a ten-point lead in the first three minutes. A 12-0 run for the Skyhawks closed the half out and sent Dominican into the locker room trailing 45-20. It was all Fort Lewis the rest of the way and the Skyhawks showed why they’re the number eight team in the country. The Lady Penguins were limited to just .267 shooting from the field while Fort Lewis shot .433 for the game.

Sophomore forward Melissa Wise was the lone Dominican player to reach double digits, tallying 11 points in 23 points. Senior center Raquel Gomes added eight points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore guard Kimi Nakamura scored seven points in the loss.

Four Skyhawks reached double digit scoring. Dana Schreibvogel went for 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds. Mary Rose Paiz added a dozen points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Christine Groh added 11 points and Abby Jackson scored 10 points and dished out four assists.

The Lady Penguins will look to leave Alaska with a win when they face Mercyhurst College on Saturday, November 27, the final night of the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational. Tipoff is slated for 6:15 p.m. Pacific.
