UCO sweeps LSC North Player of Week awards in men's basketball

RICHARDSON, Texas (Nov. 16) – Two big wins in last weekend’s season-opening High Desert/South Central Challenge in Las Vegas earned Central Oklahoma a sweep of Lone Star Conference North Division player of the week honors Tuesday.

Shane Carroll was named the LSC North Offensive Player of the Week, while Jarrod McDaniel claimed the LSC North Defensive Player of the Week award after the twosome led the No. 18-ranked Bronchos past Southwest Baptist and No. 16 Central Missouri.

Carroll averaged 14.0 points a game in the two wins while shooting 50 percent (5-of-10) from 3-point range and 87.5 percent (7-of-8) from the free throw line.  The junior guard from Mustang had 12 points with a pair of treys in an 85-56 rout of SBU and then scored 12 of his team-high 16 points in the final five minutes against UCM as UCO overcame a nine-point deficit to pull out an 82-79 victory.

McDaniel keyed UCO’s defensive efforts in the two wins as the Bronchos limited the two teams to combined 32.8 percent shooting from the field, including just 23.9 percent from 3-point range.  The junior guard from Midwest City had 10 points,  eight assists and two steals over the weekend.

UCO makes its home debut Tuesday, hosting NAIA’s No. 2-ranked Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m.
