Rock Hill, S.C.----The Wingate University women’s soccer team had two players earn first team All-SAC accolades, league officials announced Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs also had a second team All-SAC selection. Wingate went 7-1-1 in conference play, finishing third in the SAC.
Sophomore midfielder Izabella Miranda (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore defender Kelly Moldenhauer (Charlotte, N.C.) earn first team honors. Senior forward Kerstin Williams (Summerville, S.C.) is a second team All-SAC selection.
Miranda had six goals and three assists on the season, ranking second on the team in goals and third in points. Five of her goals came in conference action, while her sixth came in the Wingate’s 1-0 Food Lion SAC tournament victory over Catawba College Tuesday night.
The Brandeis University transfer ranked sixth in the league with her five goals in SAC play, while ranking seventh with 13 points in league matches. Miranda had a goal and an assist in the 2-1 regular season win over Catawba College. She had the game-winner in the 3-1 victory at Newberry College. Miranda notched a goal and an assist in the 3-1 triumph over Anderson. She scored Wingate’s only goal in the 1-0 victory over Catawba in the Food Lion SAC tournament quarter-finals Tuesday night.
Moldenhauer has scored a pair of goals for the Bulldogs this season, while anchoring a Wingate defense that leads the league with a 0.69 goals against average. The Bulldogs have allowed only 11 goals in 17 games this season. Moldenhauer has helped Wingate notch a league-best 10 shutouts in 2010. The Bulldogs rank in the top 30 nationally in goals against average and shutout percentage.
Williams earns All-SAC honors for the fourth time in her career. She leads Wingate with nine goals and 21 points this season. Williams ranks sixth in the SAC in goals, while ranking seventh in points. She had two goals (including the game-winner) and an assist in the 3-2 win over Lees-McRae College. Williams netted the game-winner against Brevard College. She had a pair of goals against Chowan University, while also notching a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win at Newberry College. Williams had a goal and an assist in the 3-1 victory over Anderson (S.C.) University.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday, taking on the Pioneers of Tusculum College in the semifinals of the Food Lion SAC tournament. The match will take place at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. Kick-off is slated for 3 p.m. Friday. The winner will advance to the championship match Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., also at Manchester Meadows.
