Six "B" cuts posted at Wingate Quad Meet

Both men's and women's teams show strong progression

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Christian Yeatts (Charlotte, N.C.) and Caitlin Seed (Macedonia, Ohio) each posted a NCAA “B” cut time, with Jeremy Gregory posting four this weekend at the Wingate Quad Meet hosted at Mecklenburg Aquatic Center on Nov. 5 and 6. The Royals competed against Wingate, Catawba and Savannah College of Art and Design. The men defeated Catawba, but fell to the other teams and the women lost to all three opponents.
For Seed, she improved upon the 53.13 “B” cut time she posted earlier this season in the 100-yard freestyle by .21 seconds as she won the event over the 13 other swimmers. Her time of :52.92 becomes the fourth fastest time in Division II and the new Queens record. Seed also won the shorter freestyle event, the 50 free, with a time of :24.29.

Seed continued to compete well winning the 100-yard backstroke with her Queens record setting time of :59.94.

“The women’s team as a whole is really improving with each and every practice and meet,” said Head Coach Jeff Dugdale. “Times are constantly and consistently improving.”

Gregory and Yeatts’ “B” cuts are the first for the men’s team this season. Gregory swam his first of four “B” cut times in the 200 individual medley. Gregory opened with a :24.77 split and closed with :27.44 to record an overall time of 1:56.06. His second came in the 200-yard butterfly by clocking a time of 1:52.89. While the time is two seconds under the “B” standard, it betters the school record by 10 seconds and is the second fastest time clocked in Division II.

The third “B” cut was in the 100 fly with a :51.04. The “B” cut is :51.49 and Gregory has plenty of time to get down to the “A” time of :48.79 as he has already taken seven-tenths of a second off of his best 100 fly time.

Gregory’s fourth “B” standard was in the 400-yard individual medley with the second fastest D-II time of 4:06.63. The third “B” standard came in

Yeatts’ made the “B” standard in the second-longest freestyle event, the 1000-yard, by posting a time of 9:43.29. Yeatts placed third in the event and made the cut with close to three seconds to spare. The time also smashes his own school record by almost 30 seconds.

“The freshman really stepped up today,” said Dugdale. “This improvement shows a lot of maturity on their part and they are progressing well.”

The freshman men, led by Yeatts, went first and third in the 100-yard free with Daniel Bowden (Charlotte, N.C., Ardrey Kell) taking the event,:47.58. Kyle Disney (Raleigh, N.C.)placed third, 48.72. Not a freshman, but a sophomore Austin Hughey (Auburn, Ala.) placed fourth with a time of :48.85.

Three freshmen made up the second place 400-yard medley relay team. Gregory, the lone upper classman, led off Elijah Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) swam the second long, Yeatts was third and Bowden anchored for a time of 3:35.16.

The men will compete at Washington and Lee on Nov. 13 and the women have off until both teams are back at Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center on Nov. 20.
