Seventh-Seeded Mavericks to Face Second-Seeded Concordia Thursday

MSU and CU to Face-Off at 12:00 p.m. in First Round of NCAA Tournament

8th Times a Charm:  The Minnesota State volleyball team, ranked 16th in the nation, will make its eighth appearance in the NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament. The seventh-seeded Mavericks begin the 64-team tournament when they travel to Marshall, Minn. to take on the second-seeded Concordia University Golden Bears, who are ranked first in the nation. The seventh-seeded Mavericks and second-seeded Concordia University Golden bears face-off Thursday, Nov. 18 at 12:00 p.m. in Marshall, Minn.

Maverick Leaders: Senior outside hitter Amanda Beekman leads the team in kills with 334 (3.37 per set) and sits third all-time on the kills list with 1,406...Beekman recently took over the third spot all-time, which was previously 1,379 kills and was occupied by former MSU outside hitter, Ashley Nachreiner...Beekman now sits 19 kills away from second all-time, which is occupied by former Maverick Magaret McCue...Senior right-side hitter Kimber Kuhl is the owner of a team-best .340 hitting percentage, while also ranking third on the team in kills with 271...Sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty sits second on the team with 271 kills...Junior setter Brittany Stamer recently joined the Maverick 3,000 Assist Club, she is the owner of 3,393 assists during her career, 78 short of fourth all-time, which is occupied by former Maverick setter Stef Sandstrom...Stamer owns 1,150 assists on the season...Sophomore Samantha Dale sits atop the team digs list with 357 this season...Senior middle blocker Amanda Thompson owns a team-best 82 blocks (0.83 blocks per set).
Program history: The 2010 volleyball season marks the 43rd year of volleyball as a varsity sport...Over the 43 seasons, the Mavericks hold a 683-551-8 record...The Mavericks have made seven NCAA post-season appearances, and they are: 1990, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2009, and will make their eighth Thurday.

Central Region: The Mavericks will be joined by four other NSIC teams in the central region bracket. Host team, Southwest Minnesota State, second-seeded Concordia University, third-seeded Wayne State and fifth-seeded Minnesota Duluth.
