Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State volleyball player Rebeccah Rapin was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Team on Thursday (Nov. 4). The senior middle blocker was placed on the All-District IV Second Team for her efforts both on the court and in the classroom. Rapin ranks in the GLIAC Top-10 in five categories and has her named etched in the Laker record books, as she is in the career Top-10 in four categories.
The ESPN Academic All-District Teams are awarded in conjunction with CoSIDA (College of Sports Information Directors of America) and the winners are broken up into eight geographical divisions, which are then separated into University (Division I programs) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) Divisions.
Rapin earned Second Team honors for District IV in the College Division, joined on the Second Team by players from Bryan, Calvin, Wittenberg, Cedarville, Otterbein, Faulkner, Bluffton, North Alabama, Denison, and Cumberland. The only other GLIAC player (on either the First or Second Team) was Hillsdale's Clara Leutheuser, also a Second Team honoree.
The senior middle blocker, Rapin ranks third in the GLIAC this season in solo blocks (17), fourth in hitting percentage (.338), sixth in total blocks (1.05), seventh in kills (3.23), and seventh in points (3.90). Over her stellar four-year career, Rapin is Grand Valley State's all-time leader in block assists, with 388 rejections. She also is third in GVSU history in total blocks (467), eighth in kills (1,236), and eighth in hitting percentage (.313).
#15 Grand Valley State closes out the regular season this weekend with a pair of home matches. On Friday (Nov. 5), the Lakers welcome Northwood into town for a 7:00 p.m. match, followed by a 2:00 match on Sunday (Nov. 7) against Lake Superior State. GVSU is 19-5 on the year with a 15-2 GLIAC record and the Lakers have won 13 straight matches.
