Poor Shooting Costs Metro State Men's Basketball Against CWU

NAMPA, Idaho - No. 11 Metro State was upset 71-55 by Central Washington on Friday at the Northwest Nazarene Thanksgiving Classic in Nampa, Idaho.  The Roadrunners fell to 2-1 this season, while CWU improved to 3-0.

Metro State shot just 35.8 percent from the floor and was outrebounded 44-28.

Jonathan Morse led the Roadrunners with 14 points and nine rebounds, hitting 5-of-6 from the floor and 4-of-6 at the line.  Quaran Johnson scored 10 points, hitting all six of his free throw attempts.

Reggie Evans was limited to just eight points, only the fourth time in the past two seasons he has not scored in double figures.  Metro State's leading scorer was held to 4-of-13 shooting, though he added four rebounds.  A.J. Flournoy was also held to five points, but had seven rebounds and four assists.  Paul Brotherson scored seven points off the bench.

Chris Sprinkler led CWU with 17 points, hitting 7-of-8 at the line, and Chris Scott hit 3-of-4 from the outside and added 15 points off the bench.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 12-3 lead just five minutes into the contest, scoring on five of six possessions.  Johnson nailed four straight free throws to cut the lead to five.  A dunk by Evans trimmed the lead to two at 22-20 with 4:40 remaining in the first half.  However, that was as close as Metro State would get the rest of the game.

CSU led 30-26 at half after a jump shot at the buzzer and quickly built a 15-point lead at 50-35 just seven minutes into the second half.  The Wildcats built their largest lead of the game at 18 points with under a minute to play.

Metro State will face host Northwest Nazarene at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the final day of the NNU Thanksgiving Classic.
