No. 25 UMSL Volleyball Rallies for Win, Advances to GLVC Tournament Semifinals

ROMEOVILLE, ILL., November 12, 2010 - After dropping a hard-fought 3-2 match one week ago to Northern Kentucky, the No. 25 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team got their revenge when it mattered most, topping the Norse in another five-set battle Friday night in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

The fourth-seeded Tritons won by set scores of 23-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-23, 19-17.

Juniors Shelby Crawford and Weslie Gaff each recorded 16 kills for UMSL which improves to 20-13 overall, marking its third straight 20-win season under the direction of third-year head coach Trent Jones. The Tritons advance to tomorrow night's 7:30 p.m. semifinals against the winner of the No. 1 Lewis vs. No. 8 Drury match.

Northern Kentucky (20-13) hit .272 to UMSL's .222 and bettered the Tritons in kills, 74-63. UMSL out-blocked the Norse, 11-10, with Crawford and freshman Corrine Hoekstra each registering five. Crawford put up three block solos.

Freshman Anna McNulty tallied 31 assists, while senior Carolyn Holstein finished with 18 digs. Junior Kelsie Rankin added 15 digs and nine kills, while senior Kayla Kinzinger recorded four service aces, 19 assists and six digs.
