No. 22 Merrimack Aims for Spot in NE-10 Championship Tilt; Prepared to Face Franklin Pierce in Semis

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- The No. 22 Merrimack women’s soccer team has one opponent standing between it and the Northeast-10 Conference championship match. The Warriors welcome Franklin Pierce to North Andover Thursday November 4 for the semifinal tilt.

Merrimack is the No. 2 seed in the postseason tournament while the Ravens are the third-seeded team. The Warriors finished the season with a 12-4-2 overall record and an 11-3-1 mark in the Northeast-10 conference. Franklin Pierce went 12-4-1 this season and 10-4-1 in the league.

Merrimack reached the semifinals by defeating UMass Lowell 5-4 in penalty kicks. The Warriors and the River Hawks battled for 110 minutes and each team tallied one goal. Danielle Dion (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) notched the home team’s lone goal, finding the back of the net in the first half for her eighth score of the year.

In the deciding shootout, Merrimack goalkeeper Kiley Horne (Scituate, Mass.) denied three attempts. Horne was recognized for her performance with Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Lindsey deMont (Littleton, Mass.), Jessica Peacock (Hopedale, Mass.), Jamie Alnwick (Groton, Mass.), Khara Roman (Orange, Conn.) and Emily Para (Rochester, N.Y.) all converted penalty shots for the Warriors. Para netted the game-winning kick to advance Merrimack.

The Warriors competed in last season’s Northeast-10 Conference semifinals. Merrimack suffered a 2-0 loss at Saint Rose.

The Ravens advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 win over Adelphi.

Earlier this season, Merrimack downed Franklin Pierce 3-2 at Warrior Field October 5. The Warriors entered the match ranked No. 18 in the national poll while the Ravens were No. 14. Peacock, Kerri Domohowski (Saugus, Mass.) and Dion all scored for Merrimack. Horne made four saves in the game to earn her seventh win of the year.

Peacock was named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference first team last week. Dion and deMont were each tabbed to the second team while Horne picked up third team accolades. Dion was also an All-Rookie team selection.

Saint Rose, the top team in the tournament and in the nation, and fourth-seeded American International will vie for the other spot in the Northeast-10 Conference tournament championship match.

Both semifinal contests are scheduled for a 4 p.m. start time.
