Men's Basketball: Vikings Crush Quest (BC) 109-49
Forward Rory Blanche had a game-high 15 points on seven of eight field goal shooting to lead eight Vikings in double figures as Western Washington rolled to a 109-49 exhibition victory over Quest University (BC) Monday at Sam Carver Gymnasium.
Forward Zach Henifin added 14 points for the Vikings, who shot 61.8 percent (42-of-68) from the field while forward Michael Duty and guard Dane Thorpe each had 13 points.
Also in double figures for WWU were centers Chris Mitchell and Dan Young and guard Shedrick Nelson with 12 each and guard John Allen with 10 points. Allen, who had a game-high five assists, scored all of his points in the first four minutes.
John Pankratz led Quest with 14 points, scoring the Kermodes' first 10 points of the game. Jose Colorado added 10 points.
Western never trailed, jumping to an 8-0 lead and extending the margin to 32-10 with 10:38 left in the first half.
The Vikings held a 53-22 lead at halftime, and never led by less than 50 points through the final eight minutes.
Football: Wildcats, Lumberjacks Both In Top 10
Central Washington and Humboldt State are both ranked in the inaugural NCAA Division II Super Regional IV football poll of the 2010 season.
The top six teams in the final poll later this month will qualify for the playoffs with the No. 1 and No. 2 teams receiving byes and hosting second-round games.
Central Washington is ranked eighth and Humboldt State is ranked ninth. Currently the Top Six include Abilene Christian (1st), Central Missouri (2nd), Texas A&M - Kingsville (3rd), Northwest Missouri State (4th), West Texas A&M (5th) and Midwestern State (6th).
CWU has a future date with Texas A&M - Kingsville as the two schools will meet in their season opener next year on Sept. 3 in Texas.
