WALNUT CREEK — Cal State San Bernardino middle blocker Samantha Middleborn has been named Molten/California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 8-14, it was announced on Monday.
Middleborn, a sophomore from Rialto, Calif., was near perfect in helping the CCAA Champions sweep Cal State East Bay and UC San Diego, who tied for second place in the final standings.
The Coyotes' middle blocker set the CCAA single-game attack percentage record against Cal State East Bay on Friday with an .818 hitting percentage and eclipsed that mark the next night, hitting .900 against UC San Diego.
In six sets, Middleborn totaled 18 kills in 21 attempts without an error, hit .857 and tallied five total blocks. She entered the week as the nation's attack hitter and her .495 hitting percentage on the year is on pace to establish a CCAA single-season record. The current mark is .473 set by Cal State San Bernardino's Kim Morohunfola in 2004.
Middleborn will lead the top-seeded Coyotes into the NCAA West Regional that begins Thursday in San Bernardino.
