Thedford, Dupree Named to CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-Region Teams

Thedford named to first team and will be placed on national ballot

CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M Lady Buff Volleyball players Lauren Thedford and Erika Dupree have each been named 2010 CoSIDA / ESPN Academic All-District selections, according to a release from CoSIDA headquarters on Thursday.

Thedford, a senior outside hitter, was named to the District Six-College Division First Team, while Dupree, a junior setter, earned second team accolades. With Thedford being named to the first team, she will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration.

A Carrollton native, Thedford leads the Lady Buffs in most statistical categories and has tallied over 300 kills and 400 digs this season. She has combined for 13 double-doubles on the season, including four straight heading into this week’s matches. A four-year letterwinner now for the Lady Buffs, Thedford has accumulated over 1,000 kills and 1,600 digs in her career. She is just one of four players in school history to have 1,000+ kills and 1,500+ digs.

Dupree, a native of Mesquite, has been one of the most versatile players in the Lone Star Conference this season as she plays both the setter and outside hitter positions. She leads the team with over 700 assists, ranks second with 313 digs and is third on the team with 304 digs. In just her first year as an everyday starter, Dupree has tallied 18 double-doubles to go along with seven triple doubles this season.

All three district teams were loaded with other LSC member players. Abilene Christian’s Shawna Hines and Kalynne Allen, along with Texas Woman’s Kendra Coulsen were each named to the first team. In all, the LSC had 11 players earn all-district honors.

Thedford, Dupree and the rest of the Lady Buffs squad head to Abilene today to take on Abilene Christian in WT’s biggest match of the season. LSC Championship implications are on the line as both teams head into the match with identical 12-0 records in the conference play.
