Mars Hill blows past Coker, 75-46

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team had four players score in double-figures in a 75-46 win against Coker in the final game of the Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic. The Lions improve to 3-1. The Cobras drop to 0-4.

Mars Hill opened the game on a 16-6 run in the first seven minutes. Jocelyn Williams had eight points on four layups during the stretch.

Coker cut the deficit to 18-13 at the 9:49 mark in the first half off a layup by Maija Castren, but the Lions pushed the advantage back to double-digits two minutes later and led by as many as 19 points, 40-21, off an old-fashioned three-point play by Taylor Deal.

Mars Hill led 41-25 at halftime. Williams scored all 10 of her points during the first period.

The Lions grabbed their first 20-point lead with 13:44 left in the game. Deal converted another old-fashioned three-point play to make the score 58-38.

The difference swelled to as much as 29 points with 2:54 left in the second half. Sky Assif found the bottom of the net to give Mars Hill a 72-43 advantage.

Margaret Harvey recorded a team-high 15 points. Brittini Young poured in 12 points. Deal finished with 10 points. Autumn Ward had seven points off the bench.

Megan Thomas led Coker with 15 points. Lucy Fish added 11 points.

The Lions outrebounded the Cobras, 47-31. Mars Hill will host Queens on November 23 with tipoff inside Stanford Arena set for 6 p.m.

In the first game of the day, Cameron Sealey scored 19 of her game-high 29 points in the second half to go along with nine rebounds as Lenoir-Rhyne downed Converse, 95-73. The Bears improve to 3-1. The Valkyries drop to 0-4.

Converse opened the game on a 10-2 run. Tasia Holdorf has seven of her team's first 10 points.

Lenoir-Rhyne answered and tied the game at 19 eight minutes into the game. Sealey converted two free throws.

The Bears opened up a double-digit lead with 4:08 left in the first period. Sealey converted the old-fashioned three-point play to make the score 38-27.

Lenoir-Rhyne led 43-35 at halftime. Whitney Brinkley had 10 points in the first half for the Bears.

The second half turned into a foul fest as both teams found themselves in foul trouble. A total of three players fouled out, and eight more ended the game with four fouls.

Converse opened the second period with an 8-0 spurt in the first 1:23. The Valkyries' Morgan Sacharski tied the game at 43 off two free throws.

Leading 63-59 with 11:23 left in the game, the Bears went on an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach. Taylor Johnson found the bottom of the net from 11 feet out.

Brinkley finished the game with 22 points. Whitney Culler and Alexis Katt recorded 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Jasmine Simmons led Converse with 14 points. Holdorf added 13 points. Jasmine Middlebrooks had 12 points. Katy Vaughan and Brandy Williams had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Lenoir-Rhyne was 47-59 from the free throw line. Converse ended the game 28-34 from the charity stripe.
