Lynn Women’s Soccer Places Two on Academic All-District

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s soccer team had two student-athletes earn ESPN Academic All-District honors as announced by CoSIDA on Tuesday.  Kelsey Butler garnered second team recognition while Melissa Ortiz was a third team selection.

A sophomore out of Overland Park, Kans., Butler holds a 3.8 grade-point average as a criminal justice major.  This season she logged the third-most saves in a single season with 89 while posting a 1.49 goals-against average, .803 save percentage and five shutouts.  Her 155 saves in two seasons ranks fourth all-time at Lynn and she is 73 saves from owning the school record.

Ortiz, a junior from West Palm Beach, Fla., has a 3.65 GPA as a business administration major.  One of the most dangerous offensive players in the Sunshine State Conference, she has tallied 34 goals and 20 assists for 88 points in her three seasons on the pitch.

Lynn went 5-7-2 overall and 2-6 in the SSC.  The Fighting Knights return all 16 letterwinners for 2011.
