Griffins Host Lady Chargers in CACC Tournament Grudge Match

Philadelphia, PA – Chestnut Hill College finished their fourth season in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with a program-best 10-1-1 league standing, earning the Griffins the #2 spot in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament. The Griffins will host Dominican College in the Opening Round for the second straight season; the contest is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff at Victory Field #1 on Monday, November 1. 

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and children over 3; Chestnut Hill College students are free with with CHC ID card. Transportation to the contest is available, with a shuttle leaving from the Louge Library at 1:50 p.m., return trip with occur at 3:30 p.m. and at the conclusion of the contest.

Chestnut Hill College (13-3-2, 10-1-1) improved their CACC postseason seed to a #2 ranking in their second straight CACC Championship Tournament appearance. The Griffins hosted Dominican College (9-7, 6-6) as the #4 seed in the 2009 CACC Championship Tournament, only to suffer a 2-1 loss at the College’s Campus Field. This year the Griffins will look to even the score at Victory Field #1, where they hold a 3-0-1 record this season.

The Griffins enjoyed one of the best seasons in program history as they finished 13-3-2 while outscoring their opponents 44-14. The offense was once again highlighted by the play of junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ) who posted career marks in goals (14) and points (32) to rank among the top five in every CACC offensive category. Her supporting cast was led by a host of talented freshmen including midfielders Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, NJ) and Steph Litty (Marlton, NJ); and forwards, Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, NJ) and Marykate McShane (Lebanon, PA). DiGiovanni totaled 12 points with four goals and four assists, while Litty led the CACC with eight assists. Pizarro recorded a hat-trick against Lincoln University and finished her rookie campaign with 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists), while McShane recorded four goals.

The Griffin backfield was anchored by a dominate trio comprised of junior defender Lauren Brown (Dover, DE), sophomore defender Amanda Botbyl (Mays Landing, NJ), and sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE). Brown recorded her first goal as a Griffin with the game-winning tally against Concordia College on September 18 while supporting her reputation as one of the top defenders in the league. Botbyl had strong sophomore season with her impressive two-way play; she totaled three goals and two assists. Veazey totaled four shutouts and finished the year 12-3-2 as one of the CACC’s top goalkeepers. Over 1,466:22 minutes in net she posted a 0.74 goals-against-average (GAA) and an .868 save percentage (Sv%).

#1 Wilmington University earned the top spot in this year’s tournament with an undefeated league record of 12-0-0, they will host #8 Felician College (7-10, 6-6) in the opening round. #3 Philadelphia University (9-6-3, 9-3) and #4 Holy Family University (11-5-1, 8-3-1) will be hosting opening round contests against #6 Georgian Court University (8-8-2, 6-5-1) and #5 Caldwell College (10-7, 8-4), respectively. All opening round contest will simultaneously begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November, 1.
