Noor and Reid Make All-Lone Star Conference
ABILENE, TEXAS — Junior Mohamed Noor’s (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston HS/Garden City CC) second-place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships paced the Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross-country team to a runner-up finish, while Nicole Reid’s (Jr., Pueblo, Colo./East HS) fourth-place finish led the Zias to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Both teams registered the highest finishes in team history.
Their finishes surpassed the predicted performances, displayed by the LSC preseason poll, which had the Hounds coming in third and the Zias ninth. Last season, the men’s team registered a third place finish, while the Zias turned in fifth-place performances in 2003 and 2006. The men rank an 8k race, while the women’s competition was limited to 4.5 k, due to an error by the vehicle leading the race.
Noor and Reid became the first ENMU runners to make All-Lone Star Conference since Nimrod Lelei in the 2006 season. Karissa Huskey was the last Zia to make All-LSC, during the 2003 championships. Noor finished the 8k run with a time of 24:28.86, shattering the Greyhound record with the first sub-25 minute run in team history. Reid completed the 4.5k run with a time of 16:32.72.
For the Hounds, Jacob Lozano (So., Hobbs, N.M./Hobbs HS) placed 12th, with a time of 25:27.67, good for fifth on the ENMU all-time list. Richard Kogo (Sr., Eldoret, Kenya/West Texas CC) was right behind, placing 13th at 25:30.98, for sixth in the Greyhound record books.
Adrienne Montoya (Fr., Estancia, N.M./Public Academy for the Performing Arts) took 11th place for the Zias, crossing the finish line with a time of 17:03.89, while Brittany Buchanan (Fr., Albuquerque, N.M./Hope Christian HS) placed 35th with a time of 17:58.15.
Next up for the Eastern New Mexico University, cross-country teams will be the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals. The event will be held on November 20th, and hosted by University of Central Missouri.
