Four Greyhound Soccer Players Selected Daktronics All-South Central

PORTALES, N.M.—  Emerson Rodrigues (Sr., F, Natal, RN, Brazil/Colegio Objectivo Portugar) and Andy Wilkinson’s (Fr., M, Lewes, East Sussex, England / Sussex Downs 6th form college) from the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team have been selected First Team Daktronics All-South Central Region for their outstanding efforts during the 2010 season. Edgar Bear (Sr., M, Houston, Texas / Ross S. Sterling HS) and Michael Stewart (So., D, Katy, Texas/Cinco Rancho HS) were selected Second Team chosen second-team all region.

The quartets play served the Hounds well in 2010, as the squad picked up a tie against national-ranked Incarnate Word and scored more goals than any other opponent of second-ranked Midwestern State. Midway through the season, ENMU achieved the first national ranking in the history of the program.

Rodirgues set virtually every offensive record in team history and finished 22nd in goals per game in the nation as a senior. He was third in the Lone Star Conference in points and goals per game. In a victory over University of Texas of the Permian Basin, he tallied the second hat trick in the history of the program. Rodrigues scored a game-tying goal against then 17th-ranked University of the Incarnate Word and posted three matched in 2010 with three or more points.

Wilkinson was ninth in the LSC with 16 points and tied for eighth in goals. His four assists were good for fifth in the conference. Wilkinson tallied big goals this season, scoring against then 17th-ranked University of the Incarnate Word and tallying the third hat trick in program history against LSC rival, Northeastern State.

Bear has been one of the top players in team history and has dished out more assists (14) than anyone to wear a Greyhound uniform. He is on numerous ENMU career lists and tied for fourth in the LSC this season with four assists. Bear assisted on both goals on the tie with Incarnate Word and had a three-point match in a win over Wayland Baptist.

Stewart’s defensive play helped the Greyhounds post a 1.89 goals against average and reach the national poll for the first time ever. He anchored a defense, which limited the opposition to 97 shots on goal. He tallied a game-tying goal against Midwestern State after Eastern trailed 2-0 and netted the game-winning goal against Texas-Permian Basin.
