Five Buffaloes Earn ESPN Academic All-District Honors

Cowdrey, Jefferson and Mullane receive first-team recognition

CANYON, Texas – Five West Texas A&M football players were named to the ESPN CoSIDA Academic all-District 6 team, as released by the organization Thursday morning.

Punter Tim Cowdrey (Senior, Reedley, Calif.), defensive back Curtis Jefferson (Junior, Houston, Texas) and offensive lineman Aaron Mullane (Sophomore, Amarillo, Texas) were named to the all-District first team.  Cowdrey holds a 3.70 GPA in Communications Disorders, Jefferson has a 3.53 GPA in Sports & Exercise Sciences and Mullane has a 4.00 GPA majoring in Biology.

Second-team honorees include placekicker Sergio Castillo (Junior, Mission, Texas) and defensive back John McSheffery (Sophomore, Sulphur Springs, Texas).  Castillo has a 3.42 GPA, majoring in Social Studies, while McSheffery carries a 3.89 GPA while majoring in Sports & Exercise Sciences.

Cowdrey, Jefferson and Mullane will now advance to the ESPN CoSIDA Academic all-America ballot.

The 14th-ranked Buffaloes host second-ranked Abilene Christian, Saturday, November 6, at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m. CDT.
