OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -- Senior Devon Young (Monmouth Junction, NJ) scored 22 points and sophomore Anthony D. Green (Jersey City, NJ) added a career-high 18 as the Felician College men's basketball team earned its first win of the young season, defeating host New York Institute of Technology, 78-66, in non-league action at Recreation Hall.
After the lead changed hands six times in the first eight minutes, Felician (1-2) took control with a 12-0 run which turned a 15-15 tie into a 27-15 advantage with 9:00 remaining in the period.The Golden Falcons were ahead, 46-33, at halfitme, and by as many as 15 points in the second half. NYIT, which was playing its season opener, closed to within six points on three occasions, the last time with 5:08 to play. But Felician tallied the next seven points, including four by Kashiff Foster (Somerset, NJ) to close out the win.
Young, the Golden Falcons' all-time leading scorer, was 9 of 14 from the field. Green shot 5 for 6, including 4 for 4 from three-point range. He made all four of his free-throw attempts and added three rebounds and three assists in a career-best 24 minutes. Senior Suquan Gary (Paterson, NJ) had a double-double by halftime and finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Felician shot 55 percent from the field and held the Bears to 39-percent shooting. Dominic Scurry paced four double-figure scorers for NYIT with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.
