BELMONT, Calif. - The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team defeated Montana State-Billings, 77-47, on Saturday night to win the Notre Dame de Namur Tournament.
Junior Erika Ward and sophomore Holly Holcomb led the Otters with 13 points apiece, each making three baskets from behind the arc. Senior Michelle Santizo added eight points, five rebounds and three assists. Junior Brandi Stephens contributed 12 points, going 5-for-6 in the field. Junior Shonetta Crain-Williams finished with nine points and four rebounds. Senior Julie Heurung recorded a team-high six rebounds and three blocked shots.
The Otters dominated the whole game and held a 37-22 lead at the halftime break.
CSUMB scored 17 points off turnovers while the Otter bench contributed 37 of the 77 points. The Yellowjackets won the battle on the boards, 35-33.
The Otters tied a program-best by connecting on 11 3-pointers for a 68.8 percentage. CSUMB shot 62.5 percent from the field while holding the Yellowjackets to a 29.1 percentage.
MSUB was led by Kayla Ryan’s 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Otters open their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season on Wednesday, Nov. 24 against San Francisco State at 2 p.m. at the Kelp Bed.
