GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines women’s basketball team was picked to finish third, receiving one first place vote, in the 2010-11 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Pre-Season Coaches Poll, as announced today by the RMAC.
Brecca Gaffney earned Pre-Season All-RMAC. Gaffney, a 6’1”senior forward from Greeley, Colo. (Northridge H.S.), was a First Team All-East Division selection during the 2009-10 season. Gaffney started all 29 games and averaged 11.4 points and 9.3 rebound per game. Gaffney’s 9.3 rebounds per game ranked her second in the RMAC. Gaffney finished the season ranked 10th in the RMAC in blocked shots (27 – 0.9 per game) and 12th in field goal percentage (.469). Gaffney recorded six double-doubles and scored in double figures 13 times.
In 2008-09, Gaffney earned Second Team All-East Division accolades averaging 9.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Gaffney was named RMAC East Division Freshman of the Year during the 2007-08 season as she averaged 9.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
The Orediggers posted a record of 20-9 overall and 14-5 in conference play during the 2009-10 season establishing a new single-season program records for total wins. The 2009-10 squad made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history falling to #6 Fort Lewis, 63-54, in the first round of NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament.
