Former Gannon football standout signs pro contract with Pittsburgh Power (AFL)

ERIE, Pa. - Former Gannon football standout Richi Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Westford) has signed a professional contract to play for the Pittsburgh Power of the Arena Football League (AFL).

Anderson was a four-year starter on Gannon’s offensive line from 2006-09. As a senior, he helped pave the way for a Gannon offense that ranked third among Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schools in rushing yards per game (178.91) and fourth in turnover margin (0.36).

The Mount Pleasant, S.C., native was part of an offensive unit that ranked 35th among all NCAA Division II programs in rushing yards per game and 49th in turnover margin. In addition, he helped Gannon players rush for 100 yards in a game seven times during the 2009 campaign.

The Pittsburgh Power will kick off its inaugural season in the AFL Friday, March 11 against the Philadelphia Soul. All home games will be played at the Consol Energy Center.

In all, the Pittsburgh Power announced the signing of 15 players Monday afternoon. The list includes former National Football League (NFL) kicker Paul Edinger and AFL veteran Terrance Carter, as well local stars Kenny Lewis of Penn Hills and Mike Washington of Aliquippa.
