Bobcats Get a Deal on Black Friday 66-55 Over Trevecca Nazarene

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College women’s basketball (4-0) made it four wins in row as they defeated Trevecca Nazarene University (1-5) 66-55 Friday in game one of the 2010 Chik-Fil-A Thanksgiving Classic hosted by North Georgia. The Bobcats have won by an average of nearly 13 points during the four-game winning streak.

Once again Gray, Ga. native Chimere Jordan led all scorers in the game, as the senior guard recorded her first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan has scored in double-digits in all four games of the 2010-11 campaign.

Senior guard Jessica Baker (Snellville, Ga.) hit a three to start second half to put GC up by 10, with the score 35-25. Georgia College led by as many as 22 points in the second frame when sophomore Kaila Parham (Savannah, Ga.) hit a layup to put GC up 61-39. The Trojans cut the lead to 11 when K.C. Van Atta nailed a deep three-pointer making the score 61-50, but the deficit was too much and the Bobcats were able to walk away with the win.

Freshman Krysta Lewis (Woodstock, Ga.) and senior Dominique Huffin (Tucker, Ga.) each aided the Bobcats’ scoring efforts with nine points.

Sophomore Karisma Boykin (Carrollton, Ga.) was another key player for Georgia College, nearly having her own double-double tallying nine assists and eight points. Freshman Abby Slocumb (Suwanee, Ga.) also added into the scoring mix with six points and snagging seven boards. Parham scored four points, a career-high.

At the half, GC led 32-25 due in large part to a 15-0 run by the ‘Cats. Rachel Bollinger hit a three-pointer to put Trevecca Nazarene up 5-4. The Bobcats’ Jordan hit a jumper at 11:35 in the first half to make the score 19-5 in favor of Georgia College.

Trojan head coach Gary Van Atta quickly called a timeout and it paid off as TNU proceeded to go on a 9-2 run, capped by a three-pointer from Lauren Wasson from beyond NBA range.

The Bobcats played solid defense, holding the Trojans to 17-of-64 (.266) from the floor. The ‘Cats have held their opponents to under .330 from the field in each of the four games this season.

GC won the rebound battle 51-43 and forced 14 turnovers.

K.C. Van Atta led the Trojans with 13 points and eight rebounds. Wesson aided in TNU’s scoring efforts with nine points and three assists.

Georgia College will face St. Augustine’s College Saturday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. in game three of the 2010 North Georgia Chick-Fil-A Thanksgiving Classic. The ‘Cats beat the Falcons 86-40 in the only previous meeting, dating back to Dec. 1, 2000.
