Big 2nd Half Leads To 94-75 Win For #3 Oilers

The University of Findlay men’s basketball team, ranked third in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II poll, came from behind to defeat Cedarville University by a score of 94-75 on Tuesday, November 16 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 2-0 record on the season.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 45-39 lead at the break, but the Oilers dominated the second half by out-scoring Cedarville 55-30.

As a team, the Oilers shot 50.7 percent (34-of-67) from the floor and out-rebounded Cedarville 43-30.

Sophomore guard Aaron Robinson, who was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division Player of the Week earlier in the day, led the team with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Senior guard Nathan Hyde (15), junior guard Kyle Caiola, freshman guard Sean Samsel (11) and senior forward Tyler Sparks (10) also reached double figures in the win.

Sparks added seven rebounds while Samsel hit 3-of-6 shots from behind the three point line.

Sophomore forward Jack Smith just missed out on reaching double figures with nine points while sophomore forward Brad Piehl contributed nine points and seven rebounds off the bench.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Derrik Hannon’s 19 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Friday when they host the Findlay Tip-Off Classic. Tiffin University and St. Joseph’s College will battle first at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Oilers and Ohio Valley College at 7:30 p.m.
