Akindele named RMAC Male Athlete of the Month for October

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines’ Tesho Akindele has been selected as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Month for October as announced yesterday afternoon by the RMAC.

During the month of October, Akindele, a freshman forward from Thornton, Colo. (Northglenn H.S.), scored 15 total goals, three of which were game-winners, and added two assists in nine games for 32 total points.  Through games on Oct. 31st, Akindele led the RMAC in points, goals and game-winning goals.

Akindele’s performance during the month of October was highlighted by a stretch of three consecutive games with a hat trick. As a result, Akindele is featured in the most recent issue of Sports Illustrated in the Faces in the Crowd section. Akindele became the first player in the history of RMAC men’s soccer to record three consecutive hat tricks.

On Wednesday, Oct. 13th, Akindele became just the second player in the history of Mines men’s soccer to score four goals in a game as he tied the school record while playing just 35 total minutes in the match.  Akindele recorded three shots and put all three in the back of the net against UC – Colorado Springs while adding an assist on Friday, Oct. 15th. In the final game of the week against Adams State on Sunday, Oct. 17th, Akindele added his third hat trick of the week in just 36 minutes on the field. In three games, Akindele scored 10 goals, tallied one assist and finished with 21 total points while playing 132 minutes out of 270 total minutes earning him RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The 2010 RMAC Freshman of the Year, Akindele was also a unanimous First Team All-RMAC selection. Akindele currently ranks first in the RMAC in total points (tied – 44), goals (19) and game-winning goals (tied – 5). Among Division II players, Akindele ranks second in total points and goals, third in goals per game and fourth in points per game. In CSM’s semifinal match of the RMAC Tournament yesterday Akindele established a new CSM single-season record for goals.

The third-ranked Orediggers (16-1-1 overall) the 2010 RMAC Regular-Season Champions, will play for the RMAC Tournament Championship at noon against #23 Fort Lewis College at the CSM Soccer Stadium.

The Colorado School of Mines men’s soccer team will be featured on 7News (KMGH) tomorrow evening, Sunday, Nov. 7th at 10:30 pm.
