Horan's goal gives 'Dogs 1-0 win at Lincoln Memorial in 2010 Regular Season Finale

Harrogate, Tenn.----The Wingate University women’s soccer team wrapped up the 2010 regular season with a 1-0 win over the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 11-2-3 overall and 7-1-1 in the SAC, while LMU falls to 10-5 overall and 3-6 in the SAC.

Freshman defender Chelsey Horan (Waxhaw, N.C.) scored the lone goal of the game in the 29th minute. Horan’s third goal of the season came on an assist from freshman defender Holly Holsclaw (Matthews, N.C.). Two of Horan’s three goals this season have been match winners.

The Bulldogs outshot Lincoln Memorial 13-6 on the afternoon, while holding a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Miriam Boucher (Calgary, Alberta) collected three saves for the Bulldogs. Wingate now has nine shutouts this season, while allowing only 0.69 goals per game.

The Bulldogs will host a first round match in the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament Tuesday (7 p.m. start time). Wingate can still get any of the top three seeds in the conference tournament, depending on results later this afternoon.
