Kingsville, Texas --- Minnesota State senior linebacker Matt McQuiston has become 24th player in program history to earn a spot in a post-season bowl game.
McQuiston – a native of Oakdale, Minn., – was a Second-Team All-NSIC selection this season and is just the third linebacker in school history to earn a spot in the game joining Minnesota State Hall of Famer Stephen Henley (1995) and Blake Freese (2008).
This past season, McQuiston led Minnesota State in tackles with 92, 52 of which were of the solo variety. McQuistion – who tallied seven tackles for a loss and a sack this year – tallied 10 or more tackles in five games this season.
The game –which used to be played in an East/West format has been changed this season. The top nominated/rated players in the nation will be selected regardless of their geographic location. The assignment of players to teams will begin with a coin toss for the first offensive player. Assignments by positional ranking will continue between the teams until the allotment at the position is exhausted. The team with the second assignment on the previous position will receive the first assigned player for the next position.
The 2010 Cactus Bowl is slated for 7 p.m., Jan. 7, at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M-Kingsville.
