LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Adams State College senior Kristin McGlynn (Bailey, Colo.) led multiple all-Americans with a sixth place overall finish as the Grizzly women's cross country team unoficcialy finished third at the 2010 NCAA Division II National Championships, Saturday here at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
Grand Valley State (Mich.), which had finished second behind the Grizzlies at both the 2008 and 2009 championships, won the team title with 66 points while Western State took second with 95, edging the Grizzlies, who had won the previous team titles, by three points.
Shippensburg (Pa.) junior Neely Spence won the individual title while leading her Red Raiders to a fourth place finish in the team standings with 114 points.
The nation's top-ranked Grizzly men unofficially won their third straight title with a score of 57 points, defeating arch-rival and No. 2 Western State by a comfortable 45.
Grand Valley State, which had placed amongst the top five 10 times but had never won, is the first non-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title to win the title since the RMAC made the move to the NCAA Division II ranks in 1992. The Grizzlies have won 15 titles, including a streak of eight from 1992-99, since then while Western State had a run of three straight in between from 2000-02.
