Clayton State’s Mutiso places 133rd at NCAA Division II Men’s Cross Country National Championships

Laker junior comes up short in bid to become first men’s cross country All-American at CSU

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – December 4, 2010 – Bidding to become the first All-American in men’s cross country at Clayton State, Fidelis Mutiso came up short in that opportunity on Saturday at the NCAA Division II National Championships at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park.

A senior from Nairobi, Kenya, Mutiso finished 133rd overall in the field of 182 runners with a time of 33:45.2 overall. To qualify for All-American status, Mutiso needed to finish at or within the Top 40 overall.

Mutiso hit 9:31 at the 3K mark of the 10K-event and 26:05 at the 7K mark. Although this was expected to be a fast course, overnight snow and slushy conditions made footing very slippery on the course.

Michael Crouch from Queens won the men’s individual championship with a time of 30:43.3, less than three seconds ahead of Columbus State’s Meshack Koyiaki. Adams State won the team national championship for the fourth straight season with 57 points.
