Lewis Men’s Basketball vs. IU-Northwest Game Notes

Romeoville, Ill. - After playing eight of its first nine contests away from home, the Lewis University men's basketball team returns to Neil Carey Arena on Tuesday (Dec. 7) night as the Flyers (4-5) square off with IU-Northwest (1-10) in a non-conference showdown. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday's contest will be broadcast live on WLRA (88.1 FM) with Dan Long and Devin Decuna on the call. Live stats, audio and video streaming can be found on www.LewisFlyers.com.

Head Coaches: Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost is in his fifth season at the helm of the Flyers and has a record of 72-53 (.576). In 13 seasons of coaching, Trost owns a mark of 225-139 (.618). IU-Northwest head men's basketball coach Shawn Chism is in his first season as the RedHawks' skipper.

All-Time Series: This is the first meeting between these two teams.

Last Time Out: With the score tied at 66, Missouri-St. Louis junior guard Dominic Williams grabbed a Lewis rebound, pulled up from 35-feet and drained the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to give the host Tritons the 69-66 GLVC victory over the visiting Flyers Saturday (Dec. 4) afternoon. Junior center Marty Strus led the Flyers with 17 points.

1,000 Victories: Lewis needs five more victories to reach the program's 1,000th all-time win.

Marty Is Money: Strus is currently shooting 73.9% (34-for-46) from the field, which would be a single-season record breaking the current standard of 70.0% (243-for-347) set by Larry Tucker in 1981-82. Strus, however, needs to convert 50 total baskets in order to qualify.

Good Genes: Sophomore forward Matt Toth chose a different athletic path than his father Tom. Tom Toth played five years in the National Football League, including starting 12 games at right guard for Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins in 1987.

Owning The Glass: Lewis has held each of its last two opponents, UMSL (20) and Maryville (19) to 20 or fewer rebounds.

Owning The Glass (Part Deux): Jerome Robinson's team-season high 15 rebounds against UMSL on Saturday was the most boards by a Flyer player since Stephan Bolt grabbed 16 caroms against Saint Joseph's in the Great Lakes Valley Conference semifinals on March 8, 2008

Dead Eye: Junior guard Chris McClellan currently sits as Lewis' all-time leader in free throw percentage, knocking down 90.8% (128-for-141) of his attempts. The Buffalo Grove, Ill., native has converted his last 28 attempts.

Welcome Back: Junior forward Lonnie Lawrence returns to the Lewis line-up after missing the entire 2009-10 campaign after tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in his career.

New Number: Sophomore guard David Bryant has changed his number from 14 to 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.

Under Pressure: Lewis is shooting 53.8% (28-for-52) from the field and 84.1% (37-for-44) from the free throw line with less than five minutes remaining in the game.

Block Party: Strus needs 27 blocks this season to break the career-record of 140 set by Austin Real (2000-04). In each of his first two seasons, Strus has broken the single-season record for blocks with 54 in 2009-10 and 50 in 2008-09.

Three's Company: Since the 2000-01 campaign, Lewis has made at least one three pointer in 297 straight games. The Flyers currently lead the GLVC with 65 three-pointers made this season.

Model Of Efficiency: Lewis took a GLVC-low 40 shots against Maryville on Thursday (Dec. 2) and won 60-45.
