Brugliera Named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bentley University’s Jacqui Brugliera (Fitchburg/ Wachusett Reg. HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. She’s the second consecutive Falcon freshman forward to earn the award, which went to Lauren Battista (North Easton/Oliver Ames HS) a week ago.

The six-footer erupted for a career-high 24 points and nine rebounds in an 84-60 win at UMass-Lowell on Wednesday and provided nine points and four boards in a 90-72 victory over two-time defending champion and previously unbeaten Franklin Pierce, the seventh-ranked team in Division II, on Saturday.

Overall, Brugliera averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds off the bench while shooting 45 percent from the field, a sizzling 83 percent from three (5-6) and 77 percent from the line (10-13).

The addition of Brugliera and Battista, among others, has helped Bentley win its first five conference games for the first time in six years and get off to a 5-1 start overall, with the only loss to nationally-ranked Holy Family.

Brugliera is fifth on the team in minutes played, but ranks second in both scoring (11.5) and rebounds (6.5). She owns a .458 field goal percentage, is five of nine from three-point land and has a team-best 29 free throw attempts, with a .690 success rate from the line.

Bentley is back in action Wednesday night with a 5:30 home game with conference rival Stonehill College.
