Bronchos Corral Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – Visiting University of Central Oklahoma jumped out to a good star at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday in Lone Star Conference women’s basketball action and did not let up in an 82-52 win at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.

The Bronchos (4-1) led 18-6 after 6:30 before the Javelinas (1-6) settled down and played them even for the rest of the first half.  The second half began the same way as the first half with UCO outscoring the Hoggies 27-9 to begin the half.
          
The two teams each committed 23 turnovers in the game, but the Bronchos made the Javelinas pay by outscoring them 31-15 on points off turnovers.  The Bronchos also had a large advantage in second chance points, 21-4, thanks to 20 offensive rebounds.
          
The Javelinas shot 28.3 percent from the field, made 6-of-27 from three-point range and were 12-for-20 at the foul line.  Freshman Chelsea Solis (San Antonio/Wagner HS) led the team with 11 points.  Victoria Gonzalez (Hidalgo/Hidalgo HS) added nine points, nine rebounds and two blocks in just 19 minutes before fouling out.  Sophomore point guard Meagan Barlow (D’Hanis/D’Hanis HS) had the best game of her young career with seven points, a career high nine assists and two steals.
          
The Bronchos were led by the duo of Ashley Beckley and Alyssa Fuxa.  Beckley had 20 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals while Fuxa added 16 points and 13 rebounds on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor.  Britney Morgan added nine points and seven assists while Alex Richardson had nine points and 10 rebounds.  They shot 42.0 percent from the field, made 6-of-21 from three-point land and were 18-for-26 at the foul line.
          
The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Southeastern Oklahoma.
