Rose Mascoli Claims NCAA Division II Cross Country All-America Honors

LOUISVILLE, Kent. - East Stroudsburg University sophomore Rose Mascoli claimed NCAA Division II All-America honors in cross country with a 24th-place finish at the NCAA Championships on Saturday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville.

Mascoli is the fifth ESU women's cross country runner to earn All-America status, joining Vanessa Andes (2003-04), Tina Vosper (1998), Jan Blake (1996) and Laura Mason (1982). She triumphed over a muddy course which had sustained three inches of snow and was traversed by the participants in men’s field an hour earlier.

In the past month, Mascoli went from a 12th-place finish at the PSAC Championships on Nov. 6 to fourth in the Atlantic Region on Nov. 20, followed by Saturday’s run for All-America honors. She was one of just 10 freshmen or sophomores to place in the top 40 to earn All-America status.

The PSAC had six All-Americans, including national champion Neely Spence of Shippensburg, who had a 15-second margin of victory over Sarah Porter of Western Washington. The Lady Raiders were fourth in the team standings, with Grand Valley State claiming the national title.
