Records Fall As Volleyball Defeats Eckerd In Three

BOCA RATON - On a historical night in Lynn volleyball history, the Fighting Knights defeated Eckerd in straight sets (25-12, 25-18, 25-22) Friday night in a Sunshine State Conference matchup at LU’s de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center.  Senior libero Lacy Redwine recorded 17 digs and became the Lynn record holder for career digs while Lynze Roos won her 100th career match as a head coach.  Lynn is now 19-7 overall and 10-3 in the SSC.  The ten wins in SSC play is an all-time best for the Fighting Knights.

Redwine, who entered the match just five digs from tying Christie Schade’s record of 1,808, surpassed that mark in the first set as she recorded six digs.  The native of New Braunfels, Texas, now has 1,820 career digs.

In her fifth season at the helm of the volleyball program, Roos is now 100-58 in her coaching career.  Lynn University is now 189-240 all-time since starting the program in 1996.

Kala Abdell and Katie Bradley paced the attack for the Fighting Knights as Abdell recorded her second-straight double-double with a match-high 13 kills to go with 10 digs.  She also finished with five total blocks.  Bradley finished with 12 kills and eight digs to go with a pair of blocks.  Fellow senior Devon Woolard had a great all-around game with 35 assists, eight digs and seven kills.

Lynn also got contributions offensively from Sophie Gagnon (eight kills), Haley Pratt (six kills) and Chelsey Semprini (four kills).

On the defensive side, Lynn recorded eight total blocks with Gagnon leading the way with six.  Following Redwine’s 17 kills was sophomore Darian Weppner with 11.

The Fighting Knights made quick work of the Tritons in the first set as they outhit Eckerd .351 to .028.  Bradley led the way with five kills while Pratt and Gagnon finished with four and three kills, respectively.

Eckerd hit much better in the second, but it was not enough as Lynn hit .293, paced by six kills and three blocks by Abdell to take the set.  Bradley and Gagnon combined for seven more kills in the set while the Tritons still hit just .077.

The Tritons actually outhit Lynn in the deciding set but Lynn jumped out to an early seven point lead that was insurmountable.  Abdell had six more kills in the deciding set including the match-winner off a pass from Woolard.

For the match, Lynn outhit Eckerd, .317 to .150 and recorded eight blocks to just three for the Tritons.

LU (19-7, 9-3 SSC) is back in action Saturday, November 6 when they host No. 3 Tampa at 4:00 pm.  The clash with the Spartans will be the final home regular season game for seniors Kala Abdell, Katie Bradley, Mallory Deneen, Sophie Gagnon, Haley Pratt, Lacy Redwine and Devon Woolard.  Fans can follow the action by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.com and clicking on “Game Central.”
